Welcome to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church!
From the Rector's Desk
Many of us have mementos in our lifetimes, which adorn our shelves or are encased in picture frames. Reflecting on memories such as these makes me think also about traditions. In the Episcopal Church we take some pride that our denomination and its worship practices are based upon the “three-legged stool” of scripture, reason, and tradition. For scripture we remember that “holy scripture contains all things necessary for salvation.” We are also a people of reason, who use our minds and experiences that with the bible helps keep our faith journeys alive and relevant in today’s world. Finally, tradition helps us to hold onto, celebrate and carry over the practices of the church which have been going on for centuries.
In May, we have lots going on during our regular worship services that remind us how are traditions are wrapped up in transitions. For instance, we will have two baptismal services (May 12th and May 19th) where we welcome yet more persons into the family of Christians who will be part of those persons who carry on the life and ministry of the church both now and for the generations to follow. In addition to this, during one service we will thank those persons who, under the supervision of Kellee Wattenbarger, Director of Christian Formation, have helped to teach children, youth and adults during this past year. We will also say goodbye to our seminarian, Beccy Smith, on her final Sunday with us, as she graduates from Seminary and heads back to Texas to begin her ordained journey.
I invite you to be a part of all that this parish offers us. Through scripture, reason and tradition we are the church. I pray that participating with us over the course of the month will allow you to take what you experience as a memento that you can carry with you and share with others in God’s name.
Your Brother in Christ,
Father Peter+
